Iced Vegan Matcha Latte

Matcha, specifically iced matcha lattes, have been a recent addition to my morning routine. As someone who’s an avid coffee lover, I’m not here to tell you to fully switch to matcha. However, I know that relying on coffee every day to give you an energy boost without jitters and, let’s face it, coffee breath, is a futile task.

After years of drinking coffee every day and getting stomach pains, afternoon energy crashes, brain fog, and digestive issues, I figured I needed an alternative. Something that could pull through when I really needed a pick me up before my 9am Monday meetings but would give me sustained energy all day. That’s when I discovered Matcha — that magic tea powder that seems to really do it all: gives you the energy you need (all day!), tastes great, and is easy to use. This vegan iced latte version is my favorite. It doesn’t upset my stomach, doesn’t require any odd ingredients, and you can make easy substitutions with just about any milk or sweetener that you want.

Tips for making this recipe

  • Use high quality matcha. The kind of matcha you use will really affect the taste and experience. Buying high quality matcha ensures that you aren’t getting any fillers in your tea powder, and that the antioxidant value is high.
  • Invest in a good matcha set. A good matcha set makes this process so much faster. Plus, they’re not expensive! I got my matcha set for about 10 bucks and it came with a bamboo whisk, reusable straw, and tiny bamboo scoop for my tea powder. I also recommend getting a matcha bowl, because they make the process of whisking your matcha tea and water much easier (and they’re really cute).

Iced Vegan Matcha Latte


Ingredients

  • 1 cup oat milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp light agave syrup
  • Handful of ice

Instructions

  1. In a matcha bowl, combine water and matcha tea. Using a matcha whisk, whisk the tea powder into the water in a zig zag motion until fully combined and lightly foamy. 
  2. Add agave syrup to the matcha mixture, and lightly whisk for a few seconds. Set aside. 
  3. In a tall glass, add ice and milk. Pour the matcha mixture over the iced milk. Stir to combine.
  4. Enjoy!
